John Francis DeRabbie
1932-2018
JOHN FRANCIS DERABBIE
04 July 1932 – 22 July
2018
John passed away peacefully in Belleville General Hospital,
Belleville, Ontario following a short battle with cancer, on
Wednesday, July 22, 2018.
Born in Hazel Hill, he was predeceased by his parents, Arthur
and Annie (Casey) DeRabbie and his brother, Billy. John is
survived by his loving wife, Hazel (Horton) of Bancroft, Ont. and
previously of Canso, his sisters, Mary (Les) Ritter, Antigonish;
Cynthia, Hazel Hill; Elizabeth, Truro; brother, Donnie (Lorri),
Waterloo, Ont. along with many nieces and nephews both in Ontario and
Nova Scotia. He will be sadly missed by his best friend,
Francis Lyons, who was like a brother.
John moved to Toronto in 1955 to be with the love of his life
and where he and Hazel married in 1956. He worked as an auto
mechanic for the City of Toronto and spent much of their spare time at
their cottage and hunting camp with his family and
friends.
John was a true « Jack of all Trades » and could
build and refurbish almost anything. He was always in high
demand when something went wrong or needed repair.
When they retired, John and Hazel moved to Gilmour, Ontario
where they transformed their cottage into a year round home and threw
themselves into community life and where John remained active until
very recently.
John enjoyed playing (and winning) cards and golfing with his
community friends. He will be missed by all who
knew him.
Cremation has taken place and his remains will be laid to
rest in Bayview Cemetery, Half Island Cove at a later date. Words of
comfort may be forwarded to the family at: www.haverstocks.com
