Obituary for
John Edwin Maben Wilson
Deeply loved, John Edwin Maben Wilson died unexpectedly, but peacefully, on November 23rd, 2018.
Predeceased by his Mother, Beatrice Wilson, and his Father, William (Winkie) Wilson. Survived by his loving wife and best friend of 52 years Caroline Wilson (nee Ade). Cherished by his boys and daughters-in-law, Gregory Wilson (Kristen) and Christopher Wilson (Erin). Poppa will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Michael, Stephen, Hanna, Gilbert, and Josephine. John will be sorely missed by his sister Elizabeth Scott (Jim), sister-in-law, Iona Joy (Don), and his dear nieces, nephews, and cousins.
John was born in Renfrew Ontario on July 20th, 1939. He lived most of his life in the Ottawa area with short stints in Toronto throughout his childhood. He attended high school at Lisgar Collegiate Institute.
John, trained as an accountant, worked in the private sector before serving in municipal finance at The City of Vanier and The City of Nepean through the 1970s and 80s. He joined The Nepean Police Service as the Director of Financial Services in 1988. He continued his career with the Ottawa Regional Police Service as a Financial Manager until he retired in 2001.
John and Caroline were married on July 16th, 1966. They lived and raised their boys in Kanata from 1968 until they moved to Stittsville in 1991. John was always active in Greg and Chris’s sports and was a valued volunteer in the Glen Cairn and Kanata Minor Hockey Associations. He spent many many hours watching his boys play and encouraging them.
John and Caroline moved to Pike Lake, near Perth, in 1996. Although retired, John continued to contribute to his community as a member of the Police Services Board in Tay Valley Township (2003-2012). He served as a member of the Perth and District Public Library Board (2007-2011). John established himself as a reliable and engaged member of his new community and was elected as a Town Councillor in Tay Valley Township in 2006. He served until 2010 at which time he and Caroline were planning to move back to Ottawa.
John and Caroline moved back to Ottawa in 2012 to be closer to family and friends and settled back into suburban life close to their children and grandchildren. Although John held on to some familiar habits by getting his haircut in Kanata and his car repaired in the Perth area.
John, a loving father, husband, and friend, perpetually held himself to the highest standards, both ethically and morally, in his work life and in his private life. John loved to laugh and brought joy to his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Partners Investing in Parkinson Research (PIPR) at the Ottawa Hospital.
Friends are invited to the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Road (at Richmond) on Sunday December 2, 2018 from 2-4pm.
