John Carriere
John passed away peacefully at home after a long battle with cancer. He will be missed by his wife Diane, son David (Julie), son Bruce (Jocelyn), son Kyle (Cody). Blessed with four granddaughters, Jade, Jasmine, Piper, and Marceline. Survived by his sisters Karen (Jim), Leslie (Jim), nephews Matthew and Brian. Buster, his loyal friend of 8 years, was by his side throughout his ordeal, and is visibly mourning his loss.
His accomplishments in life were monumental, and too many to all mention at this time, therefore this is just a short glimpse…
He joined the Ottawa Fire Department in 1967 and retired in 2006 as a Platoon Chief, at 60 years of age. He loved his job. He also volunteered with the Ottawa Branch of the Red Cross for years, up until his health declined.
For 27 years, John and Diane fostered 111 babies for the Ottawa Children’s Aid society. This was something that was very dear to his heart. Everything he ever did was for his family and helping others where he could.
Friday, July 13th, the day of his passing, was John and Diane’s 50th wedding anniversary. He hung by a thread, to make it to that all important date. A gift for his wife. A celebration, pre-scheduled for the next day, took place anyway, as a celebration of Johns life, as well as 50 years of marriage. In attendance, was family, friends and members of the Bytown Fire Brigade, along with 3 antique fire trucks, and the 1930’s Chief’s car. What a tribute to John who was one of 4 founding members of this non-profit organization.
The family would like to thank the palliative team for their excellent care. A special thanks to Janet and Ann who made his final hours bearable. Relatives and friends are invited to visit at

on Friday, July 20th from 4 – 8 p.m. Memorial service will be held in the chapel on Saturday, July 21st at 11 a.m., reception to follow. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Bytown Fire Brigade would be appreciated.
