John Crowe
1937-2018
John James Crowe – 80, of Kentville, passed away on
Thursday, June 28, 2018, at home. Born in Bass River, he was the son
of the late Homer and Susan (Patton) Crowe. John was employed in the
sales division of Electrical Distributors in Truro for many years,
where he and his coworkers sustained lifelong friendships. In 1986 he,
along with his wife Mildred, took over the Needs Convenience Store
franchise in Kentville. John also worked in sales for Enterprise in
Sackville, New Brunswick for a number of years and later worked at
Valley Stationers in Kentville, from where he retired. John had been a
member of the IOOF (Odd Fellows Lodge) in Bass River and was also a
Past President of the Kentville Lions Club. John and Mildred were avid
dancers and enjoyed attending weekly dances with friends. They also
took the opportunity over the years to travel to Puerto Vallarta,
Mexico; cruise to South America on the QEII and vacationed with family
to the Mayan Riviera, Cancun, Mexico. He was predeceased in 2013 by
his wife of 53 years, Mildred (MacKenzie) Crowe and a brother, Arthur
Crowe, in 2017. He is survived by three daughters, Carron Moore;
Cheryl (Bruce Norton) and Shelley, all of Kentville; a sister, Evelyn
Graham, Bass River; in-laws, Phyllis and Donald O’Brien, New
Glasgow; Erma and Dale Obee, Orillia, ON; Bonnie and Jack MacKenzie,
Salt Springs, Pictou County; close family friend, Rod Jordan,
Parrsboro; several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank
Carolyn Swallow for her companionship and support for Dad over the
last few years. Cremation has taken place and there will be no
visitation or funeral service, by request. Interment will take place
at a later date. The family wishes to express their sincere
appreciation to Dr. Colin Burgoyne, the Annapolis Valley Victorian
Order of Nurses, Continuing Care, EHS, Dr. Yvonne King, Dr. Nicholas
Forward and the staff at the Hematology Clinic in Halifax for their
care and compassion. A special thank you to Earl MacMurtery, Herman
Murphy, Geneva Rushton, the MacKenzie and O’Brien families
for the continued outreach and support provided to Dad after
Mom’s passing. Donations in memory may be made to the Valley
Hospice Foundation. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the
White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services,
Kentville.
