BURNS, John Raymond
At home, surrounded by family, Resurrection Monday, April 2nd, 2018, John Raymond Burns (95) was welcomed into the arms of his Saviour. John was born to George and Susan Burns (nee Mahoney) at Upper LaHave, Nova Scotia December 11th, 1922 and later moved to Hamilton, Ontario where he met his cherished wife of 64 years, the late Margaret Burns (nee Dawdy). Loving father of Shelley Maschewski and husband Jerry and the late Debora Maddalena. Will be sadly missed by cherished granddaughter Cassandra Dorman and husband Wes and grandchildren Simon, Audrey, Alex and Kyle, cherished granddaughter Caroline Maschewski, son-in-law Tony Maddalena, wife Kathy, and friends Doris, Dorothy and Ilse, sisters Evelyn Getson (Ralph), Pauline Crouse, brothers Warren Burns and Bill Cross (Gale), sisters-in-law Betty Burns, Bernice Burns and Kie Burns, brother-in-law Norm Case, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by siblings George, Robert, Edward, Mary, Vivian, Madeline, Lillian, Marjorie, and Muriel. John was a Veteran of WW II and a retiree of Slater Steel. He loved walking and gardening and the crackle and warmth of his fireplaces. He will be remembered for his kindness and generosity, his hardy handshake, warm smile, gentle kisses and VGs (very good). A celebration of John’s life will be held on Saturday, April 14th, 2018 at Mountain View Christian Church, 118 Limeridge Road East, Hamilton, ON at 2:00 pm. Refreshments will follow.
