Johannes E. « John » Winkelman
1928-2018
Johannes E. « John » Winkelman – age 90, went
to be with the Lord on Monday, December 17, 2018, with his loving
family by his side. Born in The Netherlands on November 10, 1928, John
came to Canada in 1960 with his wife, Elske, and their infant child,
and made his home in New Minas where he lived for the remainder of his
life. He was employed as an accountant and worked for Cornwallis
Motors Ltd., V.C. Woodworth Ltd. and the last 23 years as the
comptroller of Thompson’s Transfer Co. Ltd. in Middleton,
NS, retiring in 1993. In his spare time he served as Treasurer in
various churches for nearly 30 years. John was happy and grateful to
be a Canadian and enjoyed all the good things that come with being a
citizen of this great country. He was an adherent of the Wolfville
Baptist Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Elske;
sons, Ewout (Leslie), Airdrie, AB; Ronald (Cindy), Steam Mill; Raymond
(Wanda), Aylesford Lake; daughters, Sharon (Lawrence
Parker), New Minas; Coretta (Jamie Rowsell),
Coldbrook and Melinda (Warren Lampitt), Mississauga, ON. He is also
survived by fifteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one
brother in Australia; one sister in The Netherlands and numerous
relatives in Canada, The Netherlands and Australia. He was predeceased
by one infant child; nine brothers and sisters and their spouses.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation, by request.
There will be a memorial service, followed by a reception, at the
Wolfville Baptist Church on Friday, December 21, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. A
private family interment will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery. In
lieu of flowers, donations can be made to World Vision, Canadian Blind
Mission, or a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been
entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services,
Kentville.
