Send Sympathy Card
Our beloved daughter Joanne Lynn, was born to us Dennis and Adeline Duerksen, at the MSA Hospital, Abbotsford, British Columbia, on January 26, 1970 and peacefully departed this life, to be with Jesus, on Monday, February 12, 2018, at Maplewood Manor, Steinbach, MB, reaching the age of 48 years.
In July of 1970, she with us, the family, moved to Kleefeld, Manitoba, which became her home. She went to Kindergarten School in the Kleefeld Public School and in the fall of 1976, she began her education in the Kleefeld Christian School, completing the first and second grades there. She began the third grade, but on October 24, 1978, while on the way to school, she was involved in a tragic automobile accident. Here she suffered a severe brain injury, leaving her a complete invalid for the rest of her life. She spent 7 ½ months in the Winnipeg Hospital, after which we took her home and cared for her as a family. In October of 1990, we decided to place her in the Maplewood Manor where she received tender, loving care from the staff. She resided there for 27 years and was special to all her caregivers. She was a permanent fixture and was loved by all. Joanne was a gifted singer and exercised this talent until the time of her accident. She can now join the angels in perfect harmony.
She leaves to cherish her fond memories: her parents: Dennis and Adeline; two sisters: Louise (Galen) Giesbrecht of Buhle, Idaho, Rhonda (Matthew) Penner of Kleefeld, Manitoba; brother Brian (Deb) Duerksen of Elkton, Virginia; five nephews and four nieces.
She was predeceased in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents.
A special thanks to the staff at Maplewood Manor for their loving and compassionate care for Joanne and us as a family during this time. As well, Birchwood Funeral Chapel for their kind
