Obituary of Joan Prentice
PRENTICE, Joan Gertrude (nee Ball)
October 3, 1925 – January 8, 2018
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Joan Prentice in her 93rd year. Daughter of Jessie (nee Baldry) and Frederick Ball, beloved wife of Walter (Blackie) Prentice (deceased 1959). Devoted mother of Keith (deceased 1946), Barry (deceased 2013), Janet, David (deceased 2011) and Sheila. Caring mother-in-law of Lynda Prentice, Ian Smith, Deb Prentice and Bruce DeWeber. Proud and loving Grandma to Jennifer Montesanto (Steve), Matthew Prentice, Laura Prentice (Trace), Paula Clifford (Jacob), Lindsay Smith, Adriaan Smith (Sarah), Megan Prentice Heil (Jon), Meghan Smith (Steve), Erinn Smith, Emma Prentice-DeWeber and Jesse Prentice (Nicole). Loving great-grandma to Alexandra and Ciana Montesanto, Aaron McKay, Jade and Victoria Prentice, Lindsey, David, James, Avery and Jessie Clifford, Zach Heil, Kai Uskiw and William Prentice. Cherished sister to Dorothy (Doff) Quinlan and aunt to Sue Sully and Geoff Quinlan, London England. She will be dearly missed by best friend Betty Rhodes. Also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews in Canada, England, Australia and USA. Joan was born in London England. During WWII, she was evacuated to Devon and returned to London at age 16 to volunteer with the London Civil Defence. She later joined the Women’s Land Army; serving in the Timber Corps. She came to Canada as a war bride, aboard the Aquitania in April 1946. Joan enjoyed many hobbies throughout her life time including swimming, music, sewing and embroidery. Joan challenged herself regularly with a good crossword puzzle or a rousing game of Scrabble or dominoes. She spent her last years at the Clarion Nursing Home where she enjoyed many activities including; arts and crafts, Bingo and Wii bowling. Warm thanks to the Clarion team for their kind care and attention during her stay. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Joan’s Life will take place at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek, on Friday, January 12, 2018 from 12 p.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel.
