Obituary for Joan McCallum
Surrounded by her family, Joan McCallum passed away peacefully on December 31, 2017. Born in 1924, Joan led a long and happy life and was much loved by her many family members and friends. While working as a nurse at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal in the 1940s, Joan met her future husband for more than half a century, the late Alexander (Sandy) McCallum, who had arrived in her ward with a broken leg from a ski accident. She was a kind and wonderful person and is survived by her sisters Ann (Drennan) and Mary (Bernard), her children, John, Ann, Duncan, and Martha, her grandchildren, Andrew, Alexandra (Burr), Jamie, Allison, Mary (Burr), Duncan, Harry, Ian, Jasper (Stanier), Claire and Sally (Stanier), and her great grandchildren Sebastian (Slamic) and Oliver (Slamic). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Doctors Without Borders, Covenant House, or Dying With Dignity Canada.
