OBITUARY
Joan Eloise Devouge
June 5, 1942 – September 5, 2018
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Eloise (Barrett) DeVouge in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital on September 5th, 2018 at the age of 76.
Joan was born in Halifax on Friday, June 5th, 1942 to the late Bernard William and Margaret Nita (Rodgers) Barrett.
Joan started her secretarial career working in downtown Halifax for National Drug and later at Pitfield MacKay. After moving to Cape Breton, Joan worked for years at Robin Jones in Inverness. She returned to Halifax after living 28 years in Cape Breton and enjoyed time spent with her family and attending concerts and plays. Joan personified the verse from poem « Friday’s Child is Loving and Giving », as she was always helping out friends and family and was full of generosity. She loved to laugh and was known for her quick wit. After retiring, Joan enjoyed making crafts, jigsaw puzzles and returning to Cape Breton in summer to spend time with her daughters and furry grandchildren who loved her visits.
Joan is survived by her two daughters, Pamela (Lloyd) Murphy, Dunvegan; Angela (Duncan) Samson, Hillsborough; their father, Arnold, Strathlorne; brothers, Frank (Christa) Nanaimo BC, Allen (Wilhelmina) Holland; Leonard (Janet), Dartmouth; sisters, Marlene, Spryfield; Helen, Halifax; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by nephew, Bobby; and sister-in-law, Ada.
At Joan’s request, there will be no visitation. A private burial will take place at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to Central Inverness Palliative Care Society.
