Dorothy Joan Freeman was born and raised in England. At a wartime dance Joan met a handsome soldier, Dimok Clunies-Ross, they fell in love and were married. In 1951, with three young children, the couple immigrated to Canada and settled in Creston Valley. Three more children were born and Joan was kept busy raising six lively children, both in Creston and later in Langley, BC.
Her life was centered on her faith and her family, with lots of fun sprinkled in. She was active in her church and her door was always open to anyone needing a bed or a meal. Joan enjoyed quilting, knitting, baking and gardening.
Once her children were grown and gone, Dimok and Joan moved to Halfmoon Bay. There was once again time to take up her hobbies, joining a quilting group and learning to spin and weave. In 2007 Joan moved in with her daughter and son in law in Sechelt. She enjoyed being a part of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s lives. Joan was warmly celebrated on her 95th birthday this past November by friends and family from near and far.
Joan was predeceased by her youngest son, Tom in 1976, her husband Dimok in 1999 and many family members in England. Joan is survived by her children; Norman (Sandy), Jennifer, John (Dorothy), Kathleen (Mark), Isabel (Dan), 18 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. In England by her sister June, brother John (June) and many nieces, nephews and their families.
We wish to extend our deepest appreciation to the Hospice Society for the support and care they gave our family and the hours of volunteer time spent keeping Mom company in her final days.
