After a life well lived, Jiro Sasaki gently passed on April 2, 2018 in Lethbridge, Alberta at the age of 95 years.
Jiro was born in Clayburn, BC on January 4, 1923, the second of six children. He is predeceased by his wife, Mae, his brother Nobuo, his sister Yoshiye and his parents Riichi and Misako Sasaki. He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Janice, his son-in-law, Rob as well as his sisters, Alice Ohashi, Tomi Hisaoka, Amy (Ken) Kurio along with many nieces and nephews that he so enjoyed visiting.
Jiro was relocated to Alberta in 1942. Upon his arrival, Jiro found work with the Wilde family in Welling. He often shared many fond memories of the time he spent there. Jiro and Mae married in December 1950. With his brother-in-law, George Ikebuchi, they operated Chinook Service; first in Barnwell and then later in Taber until 1984. As an employer, Jiro was fair, kind and generous, believing in the potential of every person he met. Jiro was rarely seen without Mae and the two took up many activities such as curling, gardening and skiing. He continued to golf well into his nineties. Jiro had many lifelong friends,appreciating the correspondence that their friendship brought.
Jiro had the ability to make everybody feel welcome and was very outgoing, relishing the company of his family and friends. He will be missed and his memory cherished by all.
A Memorial Service for Jiro will be held at Buddhist Temple of Southern Alberta on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Friends may meet with the family prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.
