Death Notice
With her family by her side on Monday, April 2, 2018 at Vision Nursing Home, Evelyn “Jean” (n. Downer) Kern passed away at the age of 86. Beloved wife of the late Fredrick H. Kern (1994). Loving mother of Paul (Ingrid), Todd (Shelley), and Lisa (Steve). Cherished grandmother of Wade and Katie Kern, Mitchel, Kelly and Kristy Hodgins and Karissa Kern. Jean will be lovingly remembered by her sister Marie (Don) Bustin, brother Ira (Brenda) and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents George and Evelyn Downer and granddaughter Karley Jean (1996). Jean was a public health nurse for over 40 years and worked at the Lambton Health Unit. She taught prenatal classes and developed curriculums for the classroom in ual health but most importantly she loved teaching her kids and grandkids about life. Her family was the centre of her world and would do anything for them. Jean loved to travel and enjoyed going to the theatre and reading in her spare time. She was an amazing seamstress and provided countless projects for all three of her children. Jean was a long time member and supporter of Grace United Church. She will be greatly missed by those who knew her. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Vision Nursing Home for their special care. Cremation has taken place. Family and friends will be received at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Saturday, April 7th, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 8th from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held to celebrate Jean’s life on Sunday, April 8th, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to Alzheimer Society of Sarnia Lambton or the Huron House Boys Home (cheques only at the funeral home please).
Visitation
Family and friends will be received at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Saturday, April 7th, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 8th from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.
Service
A memorial service will be held to celebrate Jean’s life on Sunday, April 8th, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home.
