OBITUARY
Jasbir Singh Lally
1 June , 1959 – 13 September , 2018
Jasbir Singh Lally passed away suddenly at home in Calgary, Thursday, September 13, 2018 at the age of 59. Jesse was born in Dhadda, Punjab, his mom’s village, in 1959. As a child he loved eating sweets and playing marbles, cricket and many other childhood games with his friends in Nangal Shama. He often told us about his bike that had a broken spring that would poke into his butt, his dog Billu, and baby chicks being placed in his bedroom until they matured enough to go outside.
He graduated from D.A.V. College in Jullundhar in 1977 with a Bachelor of Commerce. After immigrating to Canada he pursued accounting at Mount Royal College, followed by a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Calgary in 1987. Jesse then received his Certified Management Accountant designation in 1992.
Jesse met Lee-Ann in February 1983. They enjoyed many passionate discussions about politics and world affairs. Jesse used his analytical skill to assist his family with any decision they may have been grappling with. After moving to Saskatchewan for a new job with the Saskatchewan Lung Association, they married in April 1987 at the Sinclair farm in Fort Qu’Appelle, where they lived until Jesse was transferred to Saskatoon. Jesse decided to move back to Calgary because he missed his friends and family, and worked as an auditor for the Canada Revenue Agency until he retired last year. He enjoyed his job and the many friends he met there.
Jesse loved his daughters, first Megan and then Shaan. He relished his role as Mr. Mom when Lee-Ann worked evening shifts. He rigged up a bike seat that he got from India so that Megan could ride on the handelbars and Shaan could be strapped in the child carrier on the back. The neighbours on McKerrell Close got a kick out of that. He always remembered to bring juice and bananas along to Calaway Park or Stampede. Megan and Shaan would have to eat them when they were hungry before he would buy any junk food. The family will always cherish the memories of their vacations to Asia, across Canada, Cuba, Europe, Mexico, and the US.
Throughout his life he loved being active. Until his last day he loved cycling, playing soccer or field hockey, he played many tournaments in India and across the prairie provinces, or the Saturday morning Lally soccer games in Cranston. He coached Megan and Shaan’s soccer teams when they were little, also cheering them on when they played field hockey, soccer and rugby in high school. Often offering post game analysis on the ride home. The family later participated in many 5k charity runs.
Jesse is lovingly remembered by his wife Lee-Ann of 31 years, and his daughters Megan and Shaan; brothers Dharmjit (Surinder), Surjit (Rani), sister Surinder (Iqbal) of Victoria; nephews Mangu (Parmjit), Tocha (Gurpreet), Rhimpy (Sukhi), Bicky (Suman), Sameer (Kiki), Bobby (Amy), Javier, Cody and Reece; nieces Harjinder (Gurdeep), Gudi (Dhana), Rosey (Pindi), Ruby (Rashpal), Brittany (Boyd), Lareelyn (Reagan), Mariah , Jasmine, and many other family and friends in Canada, England, and India.
Jesse is predeceased by his mother Amar Kaur, father Resham Singh, eldest sister Harbans Kaur, and niece Pinder Kaur.
We also wish to thank Dr. Christopher Heeg and Dr. Campbell for their compassionate care.
Family and close friends are invited to a visitation at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220-4 Street NW, Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Thursday, September 20, from 7 to 9 pm.
A memorial service will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel on Friday Sept 21, 2018 at 2 pm with Brady Anderson officiating.
