Jane died peacefully surrounded by three generations of loving family. She was born in Lintlaw, Saskatchewan where a large number of relatives still reside. She was raised in England during tumultuous times. In 1944, she married Norman Davidson, a Canadian officer, whom she met during the height of the London bombing. Following the war, she followed her husband to Bralorne, BC to start her life as a devoted wife and mother. Years were spent in the Bridge River Valley, Buntzen, Delta and Seton Portage. She spent the last 30 years in her self-designed house in Roberts Creek before moving into the gracious and attentive care of Christenson Village.
Jane was a vibrant and integral part of a large and supportive family. Her family was her greatest source of pride and pleasure. Her legacy lives on in the families of Susan (Richard), Jamie (Margaret) and Lindsay (Tony). She will be sorely missed by 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Her many cross-age friends will miss her scrabble games, bridge partnerships and sparkling conversation.
Jane was a voracious and discerning reader. She was active in the Writer’s Festival, a charter member of the Spinners and Weaver’s Guild, a volunteer driver and most proudly a driving force in the upgrading of the Roberts Creek Library. Jane was a longtime parishioner of St. Bart’s. Her faith and church family was of great support and solace to her.
Jane’s forceful character, plain speaking and common sense manner were balanced by a loving spirit, an amiable grace and ready sense of humour.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 3 at 11am in St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church, Gibsons, BC.
