Obituary of James Reid
Reid, James – It is with great sadness that the family of James Reid announces his passing at St. Catharines Hospital on July 16, 2018, after a brief illness. Jim was born in Paisley, Scotland, on December 4, 1921, to James and Margaret Reid. He proudly served in the RAF, AOP Squadron, during WWII and volunteered for dangerous flying duties in the north west European campaign. After the war he attended the University of Glasgow earning an MA degree in English. He emigrated to Canada in 1954 and taught at St. Catharines Collegiate. He subsequently worked as an editor of technical manuals for the AVRO Arrow project before returning to teaching at Lockerby Composite High School in Sudbury, Ontario, and, later, at Newtonbrook Secondary School in North York. On retirement Jim moved to Vineland, Ontario, and became an avid golfer at Rockway Glen Golf Club, an activity he continued to enjoy through his 94th year. Jim is predeceased by his beloved wife, Myra (Morris), and his sister, Annie “Nan” Craig. He will be deeply missed by his children: Jane (John) Chapell, Dale (Rachael), Robin, and Christopher (Rosa), as well as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff on floor 4A of St. Catharines Hospital for their kind and compassionate care. Thanks also go to Dianne and John Murphy for the love and support they offered “Shamus”. At Jim’s request there will be no funeral service but a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
