James Skrabek
James Skrabek passed away peacefully with family by his side at Dr. Evelyn Memorial Hospital, Stonewall, Manitoba, on November 11, 2018 at the age of 92 years.
He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Mary, two brothers, Andrew and Alex, three sisters, Jean, Ann, Nettie, son in law Howard Penston, and brothers-in-law Johnny Curtis and Steve Swedlo. James will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 69 years, Joyce, children Arlene (Kevin Leroux), Ron (Debbie), Cliff (Sandra), and Diane (Scott Kurz), sisters Lizzie (Len), Gloria, Elsie, and Joyce (Richard), and grandchildren Corinne, Sheryl, Ian, Trisha, Ryan, Aaron, Ashley, 16 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
James was born in Poplarfield, MB where he farmed for many years. In 1956, he moved to Winnipeg where he was employed at Greater Winnipeg Gas for 35 years. He enjoyed travelling and the company of friends during summers at Hillside Beach and winters in Venice, Florida.
Per James’ wishes, cremation will take place with no formal service. Interment at Glen Eden Cemetery and a Celebration of Life is being planned for the spring.
The family expresses their sincere appreciation for the compassionate and professional care provided to James and his family by Kailey Knapp, Home Care Case Coordinator, Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority, as well as the doctors and staff of the Dr. Evelyn Memorial Hospital.
