Aykroyd, James “Jim”
Jim passed away peacefully at home on May 25, 2018 at the age of 90. He will be lovingly remembered by his sister Melba (Guy) Sasseville, brother Claude
Aykroyd, sister-in-law Pat Aykroyd, nieces and nephews Grant (Gale), Carolee (Elden), Trent (Kari), Blaine, Scott (Chére), Marcella, Lillian, Gary
(Marlene), Sandra, Jeff, numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews,
cousins and friends. Jim is predeceased by his parents Samuel and Louise
Aykroyd, brother Richard Aykroyd and sister Norma (Bob) Brown and nephews Brant Brown and Dwayne Brown.
Born on March 13, 1928 in Vancouver, BC, Jim grew up on a Cattle and Grain farm in Wainwright, Alberta. He spent his youth milking cows, chopping wood and hauling pails of food for the animals. He even found time to take up the violin which he loved playing. After graduating high school in Wainwright, Jim moved to Edmonton to pursue his goal of becoming a Chartered Professional Accountant. His work as a CPA took him to Montreal, Columbia and then finally Panama working for Chanel.
Jim loved being outside and enjoyed the sunshine. To escape the heat of Panama he often vacationed in Florida.
Jim’s retirement brought him back to Edmonton and closer to family where for his last 20 years he lived with his sister Melba and brother-in law Guy. Jim enjoyed many friendships, walking around Beaumaris Lake and the River Valley.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Evergreen Funeral Home, 16204 Fort Road, Edmonton (access off of 153 Ave.) on Friday, June 1, 2018 at 2 pm. Donations may be made to the Cross Cancer Institute or a charity of choice.
