Jim was born on May 3rd, 1927 in Vancouver BC. Still a babe in arms the family moved to Montreal where he lived for two and a half years. Then, the family moved to Toronto and finally back to Vancouver.
At age 12 Jim joined the Sea Cadets. He was very proud of his time there. At 16 he went to radio school at King Edward High School. On his summer breaks he went to work for the CP Coastal Ships. During WWII his favourite ship was the Princess Maquimma. After graduating Dad went to work on the Kettle Valley Railway. He then joined the Government Telegraph where he met the love of his life, Enid Rosa-Kate Hillier. They lived all over Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast as Dad was relief Telegrapher. They finally set up house in Burns Lake BC. Then went to work for CP Tele and moved to Revelstoke then on to Nanaimo.
Dad was an active member of the Masons, Ashlar and Concord Lodges. He was also an active member of The Order of the Eastern Arbutus Chapter #68, Crescent #10, and Revelstoke.
Dad was a fantastic piano player and keyboardist. Dad passed away at 1:00am, Wednesday the 29th of August, 2018.
He leaves behind to morn: Enid, his loving companion and Wife of 70 years; Son Ronald (Betty); Daughter Diane (Joe); Grandchildren Jason (Anne), Kris (Stacey), Randal (Jen), Wade, and Dawn (Ed); Great Grandchildren Teslyn and Garrison; Brother-in-law Frank Hillier (Lavern); and Cousins Howard (Bonnie) of Shoreline Washington, William (Judy) of Concrete Washington.
A Funeral will be held on Tuesday, September 4th, 2018 for James George Hutchings (Jim) at Yates Memorial Services in Parksville, BC.
