With heavy hearts, we announce the loss of our Husband, Dad, and Grandpa, who passed away peacefully with his wife, Lorraine and his grandson, Chris by his side. Jim was born in Toronto and attended Oklahoma State University graduating with a degree in Engineering. He spent his early years working for Hudson’s Bay Oil and Gas in Edmonton and Calgary, and the latter part of his career was spent in Iran, Venezuela, Brunei and Malaysia. Jim loved the “oil patch” and was one of the first Presidents of the Oilfield Technical Society. He published a paper on Slim Hole Drilling and was a lifetime member of APEGA. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed skiing and golfing in both the Oilmen’s and Senior Oilmen’s Tournaments. In retirement, Jim and Lorraine enjoyed their time as Snowbirds in Clearwater, Florida. Jim is survived by Lorraine, his wife of 65 years; his daughters Kim and Dale; sons-in-law, Norbert and Doug; and his grandsons Christopher (Abbi), Geoffrey and Davis. A private celebration of Jim’s life will be held at a later date. Photos, memories and condolences may be shared with Jim’s family through www.evanjstrong.com. The family wishes to thank the staff at St. Marguerite Manor for their care and compassion; Dr. Mercuur for his warm professionalism right to the very end; and the emergency staff at the Peter Lougheed Hospital.
