It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of James Charles Butler of Summerville, NB, which occurred at Bobby’s Hospice on January 12th, 2018. Born in Saint John on September 26th, 1936, Jim was the son of the late Vincent and Juliette (Rouleau) Butler.
Jim worked in the 50’s at Beechwood during the building of the dam as an architectural photographer. He was then employed at Moosehead Breweries as an assistant brewer for 18 years, and retired from there to go into carpentry. With the help of family and friends, he built his own beautiful home on the Kingston Peninsula. Jim did much volunteer work in his life; he volunteered as a first responder and driver in the ambulance division for 18 years. He also donated much of his time helping to remodel the L’Arche Home in West Saint John. He was involved in the upgrading and remodeling of St. Bridget’s Church and community centre, and was always ready and willing to help family and friends in need. Jim was an exceptionally devoted husband and father. He is survived by his wife Nancy (Mulherin) Butler of 56 years, and his five children; daughters Cathy (Mike) Harding, Karen (Tom) O’Brien, Lynn Butler; sons Tom (Tracy) Butler and James (Jimmy) Butler his special angel, 4 grandchildren and 3 step-grandchildren. Jim is survived by his sister Sr. Pauline Butler, brothers Peter, Joseph (Sandra), and Michael, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Shirley, Dawn, Sandra, Judy Wilson, Donna Light, brothers-in-law Ervine Buckley and Peter Light. He will be missed by his best friend from childhood, Howard Logan.
