James Captain Murdock
JAMES Captain Murdock – born July 12, 1927 in Rencontre East, Fortune Bay NFLD. Son of Benjamin and Ivy. Murdock grew up in Rencontre East, Wife Velma was from Pool’s Cove. Had 3 children, Melvin (Halifax) NS, William (Lumby BC) and Sandra (Kevin) Shelburne NS. Murdock moved to NS form Rencontre to make a living in the fishing industry in 1966. Lived in Shelburne NS until 1992 after he retired. Murdock and Velma moved home to NFLD in 1992 and purchased a home in Mount Pearl. Murdock lived in the Masonic Park after Velma passed until his health began to decline and resided at Karwood Retirement Home until his passing. One of Murdock’s proudest accomplishments was getting his skipper’s ticket which allowed him to further his career, working for the Coastguard and then the Bedford Institute of Technology until he retired. Murdock was very active in the church until he wasn’t able to be. He was a proud member of the Masons. Predeceased by his sisters Katherine and Josie. Murdock is survived by sister Paulette (Danny) Grand Le Pierre, brother Edward (Mary), Grand Le Pierre, Children: Melvin Halifax NS, William Lumby BC and Sandra (Kevin) Shelburne NS. Grandchildren Kathy, Gillian, Ronnie, Candice and Ryan. And 7 great grand children. Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home 73 Commonwealth Ave. Mt. Pearl on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 from 6:00 –9:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. from Parish of The Ascension, Smallwood Drive. Interment to follow at The Anglican Cemetery Kenmount Road.
