Jack McMurdo 2018

OBITUARY
Jack McMurdo
12 December , 1925 – 27 April , 2018
McMurdo, John (Jack) Roy . 1925-2018. Jack died peacefully at Orchard Manor, Kelowna, BC on April 27, 2018. He was predeceased by his wife Bernice McMurdo (Leavens, d. 2000). He is survived by his eldest daughter Lyn (McMurdo) Demchuk, (husband Jim Demchuk), grandson Jeff (Ellicia) Demchuk; grandchildren Nelly and Eddie Demchuk, granddaughter Kristin Demchuk; middle daughter Marcy (McMurdo) Robertson (husband Jack Robertson), grandson Matthew (Heather) Robertson; granddaughter Summer Robertson; grandson Simon Robertson (Lauren Militello); and his son Ross McMurdo (Nancy) and grandson Devin McMurdo. Jack was a loving husband and father. As a young 17-year-old eager to leave the farm where he was raised in Maple Creek, Sask., he managed to get himself enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1943. He served 2 years as an aviation mechanic in Halifax and Newfoundland. He graduated from the Saskatchewan Forestry School and eventually spent his career working for Churchill River Power Co. at Island Falls, SK and later at Flin Flon, MB before retiring to Kelowna, BC. Jack was a consummate “kibitzer” who loved to talk and joke with anyone and everyone. He was an enthusiastic private pilot, enjoyed skiing, and was a darn good carpenter. Additionally, he carried a love of working with horses from his childhood and he was a gentle horse whisperer in his retirement years. He especially loved being around novice horse riders and loved the simple pleasure of mucking around at the barn in Kelowna. Many thanks to the lovely staff at Orchard Manor who helped make his last days so content. Friends of Jack who would like join the family to celebrate his life are welcome to join with family on Saturday, June 16, 3:00 pm at the home of Lyn and Jim Demchuk, 1135 Wintergreen Drive, Kelowna, BC. Please RSVP by June 1 to Lyn Demchuk at zl.demchuk@telus.net.
