Vukasovic, Ivica (John)
June 15, 1965 – May 25, 2018
It is with profound sadness that we announce the heartbreaking passing of our beloved Ivica who passed away peacefully in the early morning of May 25, 2018 at home, in the loving arms of his family. He is survived by his wife of almost 31 years, Mirjana (Maryann), two children Fabian and Ana, and brothers Joko, Vlade, Bozo, Mladen and Zdravko in Croatia. He will be deeply missed by his many nieces, nephews, relatives, kumovi and friends. In Croatia, he was predeceased by his mother Ana in 2014, his sister Zlata in 2017 and his father Fabjan in 2018.
Ivica was born in Dugopolje, Croatia and was the youngest of 8 children. He moved to Vancouver, B.C. in May 1987 and shortly after married his love, Mirjana. He worked as a painter by trade but, most importantly, he was an incredible person who was always very positive, kind, loving and had a strong faith. He was the life of any gathering and loved to tell stories. He also loved his homeland, Croatia, where he would regularly visit with his family. To many people in his community, Ivica was known as “Kum” (godfather) and he proudly embraced this name. Ivica and his family were also deeply touched by everyone’s generosity and participation in this year’s Sun Run and GoFundMe Campaign for the BC Cancer Research Foundation.
We thank the staff at Burnaby Home Health and at BC Cancer Clinic for their care and efforts throughout Ivica’s illness. We would also like to thank staff and many friends at Langara College as well as staff at Waterfront Employers of BC for their support throughout the years.
A special thank you to family, kumovi and friends that were there for all of us not only during Ivica’s battle with cancer, but for all the years previous as well. Your support will always be remembered.
Evening mass for Ivica will be on Monday June 4, 2018 at 7:00 pm at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Vancouver, B.C. with burial in Croatia. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Ivica’s family parish, The Immaculate Heart of Mary.
