Obituary for Irene Eavis
It is with great sadness the family of Irene Eavis, 74 of Stratford announce her passing on Tuesday February 20, 2018 at the Stratford General Hospital. Irene passed away peacefully with family by her side after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Loving mother of Heather Elizabeth Richards(Kevin), Stephanie Ruth Eavis and Shannon-Lee Eavis. Dear grandmother of Raygen Irene and Nicholas John Eavis.
Cherished sister of Ted Cook, Fred Cook (Connie), Percy Cook (Florence) and Sarah `Sadie` Quinn.
Predeceased by her parents Henry and Elizabeth Cook, brothers Harry (in infancy), Thomas Cook, sister Nancy Little, brother-in-law James « Jim« Quinn, and sister-in-law Sylvia Cook.
Irene will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.
Irene was born on November 24, 1943 in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England. She resided there until she immigrated to Canada in 1974.
Irene was a housewife and mother for many years until she started working at the Queens Inn Stratford in 1989. In 1990 she changed jobs and worked for the Red Cross in Stratford as a PSW until her retirement in 2002.
In her younger years in England she enjoyed going dancing every Friday night with her sister Sarah and husband Jim Quinn. She also enjoyed going to the dog and horse races and to the speedway.
After her retirement in 2002 her favourite thing to do was spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren who visited almost every weekend. She also enjoyed gardening, knitting and reading.
A Special Thank You goes out to Dr Vincent and Dr Perara of the London Health Sciences Centre, Cancer Unit. As well as VON Stratford-Perth especially Sherry Cleaveley, and her One Care PSW’s for all of their amazing care, and compassion during her illness.
Friends will be received at Rutherford Cremation and Funeral Services, 804 Ontario St, Stratford, on Monday February 26, 2018 from 6:00 – 8:00pm. Funeral service Tuesday at 11:00 a.m., Internment at Avondale Cemetery.
