Ila passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at the Foothills Medical Centre on Saturday, October 20, 2018, at the age of 95.
Ila was born in Wilcox, Saskatchewan, in 1923 to Lois & J.R. Lundrigan. She grew up through the Great Depression and Second World War. During the war Ila moved to Toronto to work at the Gulf chemical plant.
In 1948 Ila married Dave Reynolds and began their family, later raising three children by herself and working for The Royal Bank. Ila and her children then moved to Calgary in 1966. Ila retired from the bank in 1980 after a long career working as a supervisor in the Data Center, manager at the Main Branch Savings and as a mortgage representative.
A woman before her time as a leader and manager, Ila set a wonderful example to the next generations of her family; a strong supporter of higher education and pursuing one’s passion for all of her children and grandchildren.
Married to Ernie Carter in 1980, living between California and Calgary, they loved travelling together and hosting holiday celebrations for their large blended family. Ila was always the first to see both sides of any story and encouraged all of us to work hard. There is no way to express how much she will be missed for her compassion, generous nature and wisdom.
She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her children Dave Reynolds (Colleen), Marsha Reynolds and Kelli Hanslien (Dan). She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren Ryan Reynolds (Andrew), Anni Reynolds, Dan Austin (Sara), Holly Austin (Kevin), Alysha Hanslien and Hayley Copp (Jeff), and her great-grandsons Phoenix Berry and Cael Austin. Ila’s memory will live on through numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Ernie Carter. We are grateful that she is now reunited with all the special people in her life.
The family would like to thank and share Ila’s appreciation of the staff at Wentworth Manor who made her feel cared for and respected for the last years of her life.
