Surrounded by his loving family, Iain died peacefully on August 1, 2018 in Victoria, BC after a 50-year struggle with Type 1 Diabetes.
Born on October 23, 1942 in Inverness, Scotland, Iain was predeceased by his parents, John and Elizabeth. He is survived by his wife, Anna, their children, Rory, Robin, Joanna and their families, five grandchildren and two sisters.
Iain, a family physician, came to Canada with Anna in 1971, at first practicing in Lethbridge, Alberta where their two sons were born. In 1976, he moved to the west coast, to start a family practice in Parksville. Soon after, daughter Joanna was born. For the last 30 years, he practiced in Victoria and most recently was the school physician at St. Michaels University School. His wisdom and compassion greatly influenced the lives of the countless young people with whom he was surrounded.
But Iain’s greatest joy came from his family, of whom he was immensely proud, and his beloved grandchildren, who meant the world to him.
A Memorial Service will be held in the chapel at St. Michaels University School on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at 11.00 a.m. followed by a reception.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation so that others may not suffer as he did. Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Iain was a joy to know, and a wonderful example of how to face adversity with a smile.
Travelling together with our families was a highlight of our early practice years in Qualicum beach.
We feel Anna’s loss.
