Hilton Amos McNutt
1929-2018
Hilton Amos
McNutt, 89, of Springhill, passed to his eternal rest
on Sunday, November 11, 2018. Hilton was born in Leamington,
NS, July 15, 1929, son of the late Amos and Flora (MacEachern)
McNutt.
Hilton worked with the Springhill coal
mines, was a dragerman during the 1956 explosion and was a survivor of
the 1958 disaster. He was the first dragerman to return to
the mine with the 1958 rescue effort. Following that, he
went on to further careers with the provincial and federal governments
in both New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
Hilton was an active member of the
Springhill Baptist Church, and volunteered in many charitable
organizations. Amongst his numerous accomplishments, he was
a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow for Rotary Club International.
He loved to garden and was especially proud of his roses and tomato
plants. He loved spending time outdoors at his camps and
cottage, and the past few years, wintering in Florida. He
lived life to the fullest.
He was a beloved husband, father,
brother, grandfather and great grandfather. Hilton will be sadly
missed by his wife, Doris (nee Carter-Fear); his children, Lynne
(Richard) Billings, Winnipeg and Scott (Pippa) McNutt, Springhill;
four grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; two sisters, Geraldine
McDermott and Helen (Bill Heffernan) Clarke; many nieces and nephews,
as well as Doris’ family.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased
by his first wife of more than fifty years, Belle (Maddison);
brothers, Jim and Walter; sisters, Alva and Connie, and Doris’
daughter, Linda.
Arrangements for Hilton are under the
care and guidance of A.H. Brown Funeral
