Henry Palmer Cotter (Died March 15 2018)

Surrounded by his loving family, we are heart broken to announce the unexpected passing of Henry P. Cotter at the Dartmouth General Hospital on March 15, 2018, at the age 77. Born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland he was the youngest son of the late William and Blanche Cotter. He was predeceased by his brother James Cotter, and survived by sister Olive (Cotter) Snow, brother Ken Cotter, sister in laws Carmel (Wayne) Baker and Mary Collins, brother in law Larry (Ann) Walsh and several nieces and nephews. Henry is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Rose Cotter, and was a wonderful father of three daughters, Wanda (Miles) Whiteway, Kimberley (Peter) Nixon and Angela (Ken) MacKay, all of Dartmouth. Also cherished by his grandchildren; Austin, Samantha and Michael (Nixon), Taylor and Robert (Whiteway), Madison, Gregory, and Matthew (MacKay); great grandchild Tanner and the newest addition, another great grandson, born March 16, 2018. Henry enjoyed a successful career with the Royal Bank of Canada for 38 years, where he made many life long friendships. He held various positions, and retired as the Manager,Risk Management, Atlantic provinces. He often remarked he never worked a day in his life, as he loved what he did. He was an active member in the community and volunteered for many organizations, more recently Blessed Pope John XIII and the Atlantic RBC Pensioner Club. Henry thoroughly enjoyed being part of the committees at his apartment complex, where they are more like family than neighbours. Henry was a pillar of his family and community, he always made himself available to everyone for advice and was willing to help whenever needed. A devoted husband, and dedicated father and grandfather to his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed every sporting event and activity, always cheering them on and encouraging them in everything they pursued. He was for many decades an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan, never missing a game and waiting patiently for their next Stanley Cup Championship…Henry’s legacy is his grandchildren left to cheer them on! There are no words to describe how greatly he will be missed by many, but we will treasure our time we had with him. The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to the wonderful staff at the Dartmouth General Hospital, who helped the family during his brief stay. Visitation will be held at the Dartmouth Funeral Home, 29 Queen St., March 20th 6-8pm. The funeral mass will be held at Saint Thomas More Parish in Dartmouth, March 21st at 11am, with a reception to follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Henry may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society and the Arthritis Society.
