Obituary Overview
A Good Man With a Big Heart
Henry Joseph Poirier (Hank), beloved husband of 60 years to Sylvia Poirier passed away at Covenant Care-St. Teresa Place, Calgary on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at the age of 82 years.
Hank was born in Fernie, BC and had many accomplishments throughout his hard working life and career. He was the loving and supportive father of Cindy (Will) of Calgary, AB, Ken (Sandy) of Chilliwack, BC and Michele (Mark) of Radium Hot Springs, BC. Hank will also be lovingly remembered by his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends. He was predeceased by his son Richard (Brenda) in 2012.
He served in the Canadian Navy for five years, based out of Victoria, BC where he met and married Sylvia. He moved to Calgary in 1960 and eventually settled in the community of Mayland Heights where he raised his family and lived for 50 years. The family shared great experiences and built precious memories camping in the summer and snowmobiling in the winter. Hank worked as a refrigeration mechanic and went on to develop and instruct the refrigeration mechanics program at SAIT. He obtained his private pilot’s licence and took the family on many trips in his Cessna. Hank also enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning, cycling, and sipping on a beer or two at the Forest Lawn Legion, where he also volunteered with the Poppy Fund campaign. Hank was a good man with a big heart. He was loved by many and will be dearly missed.
At Hank’s request, no service will be held at this time.
“Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.”
