Obituary Overview
Helen Yee-Tsing Lee
Helen Yee-Tsing Lee: With deep sorrow we announce the sudden passing of our wife, mother, grandmother and sister on April 27, 2018.
She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her husband Louis, her daughter Sandra (Jason) and their children Veronica and Elliot, her son Stephen (See-Ming) and their children Amy and Lewis, her daughter Mona (Paul) and daughter Grace (Don) and their children Christopher and Michelle. She will also be missed by her sister Kam-Ho Chan, sister-in-law Oy-Wan Chow Young and many nieces and nephews.
Helen was predeceased by her father Lam-Fat Young and mother Yuk-Ying Siu Young. Brothers Augustine Chi-Yet Young and Chanh-Heen Young and sister Seen-Man Lau.
Helen was born in Zhongshan (中山) County of Guangdong Province in China. She grew up in Hong Kong and graduated from St. Mary’s Canossian College. After graduation she worked in administration for the Kowloon Police Department in Hong Kong.
She married the love of her life, Louis and started a family. They left a very comfortable life in Hong Kong to immigrate to Canada so their four children could have a better future and opportunities. Her first job in Canada was an executive assistant at Olympic Sportswear. Always wanting to do better, she earned her library science diploma at Red River College and worked in acquisitions at the University of Manitoba Medical Library until her retirement.
Helen and Louis were active in the Chinese Community in Winnipeg for many years, volunteering at the Chinese Cultural Centre and Folklorama. During their retirement they spent their winters in Arizona and made many friends there.
Helen was a trailblazer as she was the first woman in her family to receive a formal education, be fluent in English, and be a working mother. She was also the first woman in her family to own and drive a car. All of this was not an easy feat for a woman living in Hong Kong in her generation.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 19, 2018 with viewing a half hour prior to the service, at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd with interment and reception to follow.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
