Obituary of Hayward Slade
Surrounded by the loving warmth and care of his beautiful family, Hayward left this world quietly and in peace in the comfort of his home to be with his Lord and Saviour.
Predeceased by his Mother and Father, Thomas and Laura Slade, niece, Carla and brother-in-law, James Taylor. Hayward will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife & soul mate of 52 years, Joan, his daughter, Mona (always her Dad’s little girl), her husband Lorenzo, and precious granddaughters, Taylor & Tori, as well as his cherished son Darryl, his wife Karen, and treasured granddaughter Brittany.
Always in his heart Tracy McDonald and sister-in-law Dairdre Taylor. He was also blessed with 7 Brothers (Roy and Joyce, Clarence and Betty, Norman and Linda, Maxwell and Jane, Wayne and Phyllis, Clyde and Marie, Ron and Faye), 2 Sisters (Stella and Eli, Patricia and Harold) and numerous nieces and nephews all who were dear to his heart.
Hayward ’s career took him from Sangamo Electric in Toronto relocating to Victoria , NL and then Bishops Falls , NL where the family resides today, he continued his working career for 33 years at Newfoundland Hydro before his retirement.
Hayward touched the lives of many as a Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Friend. He was a friend to many and had an infectious ability to make everyone he knew a happier and a better person. He could make fun and make you laugh at the silliest of situations. He was always there for whoever needed him but most of all he was his family’s “rock” who will be in their hearts and thoughts forever.
Hayward was a strong and true believer in the importance of family and friends. He loved attending events of his granddaughters and was so very proud of their accomplishments. He loved working with his hands, tinkering and fixing things in the garage especially his old cars he restored whenever he could. He loved fishing, hunting and enjoyed his cabin at Philips Head watching the glitter of the moon on the shimmering water in the evening, and the beautiful sunrises each morning. He used to say “life on this earth couldn’t get much better” (His Heaven on Earth). He was proud to show anyone that visited the beautiful scenery and areas that touched him so.
His family gives a heartfelt thank you to the Doctors and nurses that cared and kept Hayward as comfortable as possible during his battle with Cancer.
Hayward ’s family would also like to express their deepest gratitude and appreciation for all the thoughtful expressions of love and kindness from relatives and friends leading up to their time of loss in their bereavement.
