OBITUARY
Mr. Harry William Beveridge
August 31, 1936 – October 11, 2018
Harry William Beveridge, of Surrey BC, passed in his sleep on 11th of October 2018, aged 82. He was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the oldest of four children born to Harry and Helen Beveridge. He is survived by Anna, his wife of 57 years.
Harry was proud to wear the uniform of the RCMP and served his whole working life (39.5 years) in the force. Following his training in Regina, he began his career as a Constable in the Haney detachment in 1957. He also served in many other detachments throughout British Columbia, including northern isolated communities, and within the Kootenay Rockies. He ended his career in the Lower Mainland. Harry rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant and received Distinguished Service Awards and the Medal of Honour for Bravery.
As well as being a prolific reader of fiction and non-fiction, Harry was known as a story teller and spent many hours sharing moments of his personal and professional life with family and friends. Those who knew him best, also describe Harry as a provider. He took great pleasure in hosting family gatherings with his wife Anna in their home. No one ever left hungry! In more recent years, Harry and Anna, have taken in rescue dogs and that gave him much pleasure. He was also known as a ‘bird-man’ having taken care of local bird and wild life in a dedicated way for many years. His family will carry on that work.
Harry is survived by his wife Anna, their three children, Douglas, Lynda, and Steven, daughter-in-law Candace, and grandchildren Oliver and Emily. He leaves behind his siblings Gail and Joan, and brothers-in-law Andy and Gerry, sister-in-law Margaret, as well as many nieces, nephews, their spouses and children. Harry was predeceased by his much-loved brother, James, his parents, and brothers-in-law Alex, Joe, Len and John, and sister-in-law Effie.
A celebration of Harry’s life will be held on Friday 2nd of November 2018 at 1pm at First Memorial Funeral Services Fraser Heights Chapel, 14835 Fraser Highway, Surrey BC.
