Harry Rosen Thursday November 15 2018

ROSEN, Dr. Harry. After a long, wonderfully well-lived life, Harry passed away peacefully at aged 89 on November 15, 2018.
Cherished husband of Delores (nee Corenblum) for 62 years, their loving union set the standard high for what a marriage can be. Adored father of Joy (Larry Freedman), Paula (Stephen Toope) and Eric (Rachel Nelson), grandfather of Erin, Michaela and Evan Freedman, Hannah (Peter Ellix), Alex and Rachel Toope, Max, Noah and Zoe Rosen. Great grandfather of Clara Ellix. Brother of Sarah Kagan and the late Irving Rosen.
His St. Urbain Street childhood was modest in means but rich in love. An outstanding student, he was admitted to the McGill Faculty of Dentistry before even completing his B.Sc. Thus began a relationship with the institution that would flourish through his lifetime eventually becoming Emeritus Professor – all the while building a formidable private practice.
He was a pioneer in prosthodontics, published many ground-breaking journal articles, lectured regularly in Canada and abroad, and initiated the first Canadian graduate program in his specialty. He was a Fellow of the American College of Dentists, which bestowed upon him its greatest honour, the William John Gies Award.
Harry was a true Renaissance man. An avid skier, dancer, windsurfer and equestrian, he was happiest when others would join him on the slopes, the dance floor, or in the lake, ring or woods.
His greatest diversion was his work with stones, a material even more enduring than teeth. A practical exercise to clear rocks from the lake at his beloved country house in the Laurentians turned into a passion for building towering stone sculptures. Harry donated his collection of `earth art’ pieces, unified by their inspirational and uplifting universal messages, to institutions whose mandates aligned with his passions. Now, 18 major works in Montreal and Toronto create a legacy.
Few of his professional or personal accomplishments would have been possible, without the foundation and support of Delores. Complementing each other perfectly, they were the greatest of dance partners, literally and figuratively, enjoying a rich social life, the arts and exploring the world.
Harry was immensely proud of his children, the lives they have built, and his grandchildren.
His even temperament, warm smile and gentle charisma put anyone in his midst at ease.
Harry never lost his desire to keep learning and bettering himself. Anyone who spent time with him would quickly realize they were in the presence of a happy, fully-realized man, comfortable in his skin, and at peace with the world around him.
Productive to the end, even as his health was failing and he knew the clock was relentlessly ticking down, Harry knew only one direction: forward.
He will always be missed and never forgotten.
