Hannah Andrina Johnson
February 27, 1924 – February 8, 2018
Hannah was born February 27, 1924 in Moose Jaw, SK, to Margaret and John Olsen. The family farmed near Parkbeg, SK, until 1934 when they moved to the Silver Park area to escape the drought in the south. Hannah and her older sister, Olga, finished high school in Silver Park. At the age of 18, Hannah got a job at the Sanitorium in Prince Albert and in 1943 was employed with M&B Aviation, where she stripped paint off training aircraft. She married Arnold Fjeld in 1945 and over the next 12 years they had ten children, four of whom passed away in early childhood. Hannah always had a love for nursing and started out as a Chaperone at the Holy Family nurse’s residence. She worked as a nurse’s aide at the old Victoria Hospital, mostly on the Children’s Ward. Once the family was mostly grown, she went back to school, receiving her CNA Certificate in 1974, and continued working at the Victoria Hospital. In 1975, she married Martin Johnson and moved to Melfort. In 1982, she moved back to Prince Albert, working in real estate for a few years and also continuing nursing. After retiring, she moved to Guernsey, SK to be close to her only daughter, and finally returning to Prince Albert, living in the Elks Senior units until her health forced her to move. Hannah loved gardening, playing music on the accordion and organ, as well as dancing and playing cards. Hannah will be loving remembered by: her children: Harvey (Diane) and children, Scott, Ryan and Mark; Linda’s children: Leslie, Mervin and Ted Samoleski; Mervin (Diane) and children, Jodie, Amanda and Meghan; Craig; her daughter-in-law: Terry and children, Alexandra and Madison; Ted (Phyllis); her 18 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was predeceased by: her parents: Margaret and John Olsen; her husbands: Arnold Fjeld and Martin Johnson; her children: Betty, Frank, Roger, Shirley, Leroy and Linda; and her sister: Olga (Carl) Lange. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at Weldon Care Home and Kinistino Jubilee Lodge for the care and compassion shown to mom over the years. Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, February 17, 2018 – 10:30 a.m., at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Dennis Serfas as Officiant. Interment will follow in Winton Cemetery. In lieu of other tributes, donations in memory of Hannah may be made to Weldon Care Home, Box 220, Weldon, SK, S0J 3A0. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca.
