It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Gwendolyn Jean Stephenson (nee Snowden) announces her passing on July 22, 2018 at the age of 77. Gwen’s final wish came to be as she peacefully passed at home with her daughter and son by her side. Gwen was known for her quiet strength next to her jovial husband, her kindness, huge heart and her love, dedication and commitment to family and friends.
Gwen will be lovingly remembered by her children, Jay (Vanessa) of Perth, Australia and Kerrie (Cameron) of Kamloops, BC. Grandma/Nan will everlastingly be adored and loved by her seven grandchildren, all of whom she truly treasured; Brayden, Alexander, Tessa, Laura, Scott, Samantha and Harrison. Gwen will also be greatly missed by her siblings, Bob (Marj) Snowden, Eric (Fran) Snowden and Harry (Evanne) Snowden as well as brother and sister in-laws Audrey (George) Bucknell, Herb (Gladys) Stephenson, Terri Stephenson, Wayne (Betty) Bannister, Donna (Warren) Nelson, Sandra Bannister, Rick (Mary) Bannister, Ron (Betty) Bannister, Agnes Bannister (Chris) numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and extended family.
Gwen was predeceased by her husband Gerry, daughter Shelley, parents Cecil and Elsie, in-laws Raymond, Eva, Jack, Sydney, Marj, Ethel, Lloyd, Garry, Jackie and niece Sheri.
A Celebration of Gwen’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, August 11, 2018, at Connelly-McKinley Edmonton South Chapel, 4820 Meridian Street, Edmonton, with Chaplain Jill Burt officiating. In keeping with Gwen’s wishes, cremation has taken place. She will be held lovingly in family’s arms until resting with her husband Gerry and precious daughter Shelley.
Heartfelt thanks and gratitude to family and friends for their support over the last few months. Thank you also goes out to Dr. Nataraj, Neurosurgeon, who believed when others didn’t. His willingness to take a chance enabled us precious time to make more memories. Additionally, appreciation and thanks to Dr. Butts, Dr. Follett, and all staff at the Cross Cancer Institute who provided the most amazing care and showed extraordinary kindness and compassion.
