Gwendolyn Agnes Durant
Durant (Hollett), Gwendolyn Agnes “Gwennie”, age 88, of Lake Loon, passed away on November 2, 2018 in the Dartmouth General Hospital.
Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Martena (Murphy) and Michael Hollett.
Gwennie began her working career at Guildford’s, later worked at Western Furniture and Speedy Propane and finally retiring from a position at the Chronicle Herald. She enjoyed bowling and was a member of a bowling league with her husband Larry for many years. They loved spending their summers and hosting parties at the camp in Mount Uniacke. A skilled seamstress, she was often called upon to sew and do alterations at a moment’s notice. She was well known for the beautifully crafted wedding gowns and dresses she created.
Gwennie loved to feed everyone and everyone loved to eat her cooking and baking. She will be remembered for her generosity and her welcoming nature.
She is survived by her daughters, Laura and Mary; granddaughters Grace and Theresa.
She was predeceased by her husband Larry; and brother Reggie.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9pm on Tuesday November 6th in Atlantic Funeral Home, 711 Main Street, Dartmouth. The Memorial Mass will take place at 11am on Wednesday November 7th in St. Thomas More Parish, 15 Caledonia Road, Dartmouth with a reception to follow. Private interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Feed Nova Scotia.
