Gordon McLeod tragically passed away during an unfortunate crash from a flight out of the Sechelt airport. Miraculously, his two grandchildren and son-in-law were able to walk away from the crash site with only scrapes and bruises.
He is survived by his wife Virginia, two children Jennifer (Glade) and Heather (Gavin); four grandchildren Ava, Lila, Ruby, Watson and his siblings Murray, Mary Jane, Angus, Margaret, Catherine and Theresa.
As a young man Gordon graduated from the University of AB with an Engineering degree. It was during the summers off from university that Gordon worked with German trained mason’s all over Alberta. It was here that he honed his trade for masonry that was later to give birth to his entrepreneurship.
Gordon worked on Vancouver Island for Macmillan Bloedel for a number years but soon his entrepreneurial skills took over and a masonry company was born.
McLeod Masonry was involved in commercial and industrial work since its inception in 1974 including a number of projects on the Sunshine Coast (the addition to the Trail Bay Mall, Elphinstone School, and the Halfmoon Bay Firehall).
In 1995 Gordon specialized into masonry historical restoration. Many notable projects include the St. John’s Cathedral, Saskatoon, SK, the Alberta Legislature Building, Edmonton, AB, the Marine Building, Hotel Georgia, and the Hotel Vancouver, Vancouver, BC. He expanded into the USA in 2003 and restored the Pioneer Courthouse, Portland OR, Mt. Constitution, Orcas Island, and many buildings in Pt. Townsend, WA, his favourite spot in the world. It is here in Pt. Townsend that the pride in his life’s work and love of all things historical blended together.
This kind and generous man had many passions; motorhoming, flying, restoring old classic cars, international traveling and golfing. These activities kept him entertained as he was winding down the businesses, getting ready for retirement between the Sunshine Coast and Pt. Townsend, WA.
He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, entrepreneurship, kindness, generosity and sense of adventure.
A funeral will be held at the St. Albert Catholic Parish in Edmonton, AB on July 26, 2018, followed by a reception at the Fairmont Hotel MacDonald. A gathering of family and friends will be held on the Sunshine Coast, Vancouver and Pt. Townsend, WA with dates to be announced.
