Gordon Leonard Waunch
April 4, 1941 – February 12, 2018
Mr. Gordon Leonard Waunch, also known as “Gord” or “Gordie”, passed away on February 12th, 2018 at the Hinton General Hospital at the age of 76 years.
Gord was born on April 4th, 1941 in Edmonton, Alberta to parents Douglas Earl & Anna Christine Waunch, alongside his brothers Dennis Waunch, Brian Waunch; sisters Donna (Harold) Newman, Joan (Jim) Smith and Dianna (David) Leverrier. Gord attended school at Rutlend, Kelowna and the British Columbia Vocational School in Nanaimo. Gord has resided in a variety of places including Chilliwack, British Columbia; Calgary, Alberta; Bacoor, Cavite, Philippines and most recently Hinton, Alberta. Over his lifetime, Gord has worked at Woodfiber in Nanaimo, British Columbia; Gregg River Mine in Hinton, Alberta as a heavy duty mechanic and Swanberg Bros. Trucking in Edson, Alberta. In his off time, Gord enjoyed skiing, canoeing, fishing, playing the guitar, reading and writing short stories. Gord attended the Catholic Church and enjoyed participating in activities with his Catholic Church family.
Gord is survived by his wife, Renina Festin Waunch; daughters Julie Ann Waunch, Suzanne Waunch, Sharon Waunch (Tomluenovich) and Naomi Ilanga Waunch; plus grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Gord was predeceased by his parents, Douglas Earl & Anna Christine Waunch.
Blessing and committal service will take place at the Woodlawn Cemetery on February 21, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. There will also be a Memorial Service held in the Philippines at a later date.
The bereaved family is deeply grateful to all their friends, relatives & acquaintances that shared their grief and offered prayers for the repose of the late Gordon Waunch’s soul.
Gordon lived his life to the fullest; he was ready to meet his maker.
