OBITUARY
Gordon Havelock Cohoon
May 8, 1939 – September 5, 2018
Dartmouth, NS. Age 79.
It is with heavy hearts we announce Gordon Cohoon passed suddenly and peacefully on Sept 5th, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Gordon was born in Canso, NS and is the son of the late William and Margaret (Cohoon). He was a devoted husband for 58 years and a loving father, brother, brother in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Gordon will be greatly missed by his wife Doris Cohoon (Dartmouth); children, Pauline Peddle (Trevor), Juanita Groves (Steve), Alanna Cohoon (Gordon Hyland), Paul Cohoon (Annette Hiscock); Grandchildren; Christine, Gordon, Shannon, Sarah, Alicia, Brandon, Angela, Colin, Matthew; Great-Grandchildren, Ashton, Jaylen, Joelle, Mackenzie, Alijah, Kyrell, Weston, Wyatt, Wren.
Gordon was a skilled butcher by trade. He worked for 12 years at ENN-ESS Abattoir as the head foreman, and 45 years as Sales Manager at Brothers Meats & Delicatessen on Agricola St. He was also a part time driver for over 45 years with Casino Taxi and was their longest tenured driver. Gordon met the love of his life Doris LaPierre at age 18, and they married in January 1960. Doris and Gordon enjoyed travelling on the cruise ships, and together they raised four children and were blessed with nine grandchildren. He enjoyed local baseball, Sunday Nascar, and watching hockey. His favorite games to watch were those of his family. Their home, and the kitchen, were always open to friends and family. “Our Dad was very social and always ready for a family gathering or party”. He will be greatly missed by his second family at Brothers Meats & Delicatessen. He was a mentor to many and our families were of one, and will continue to be always. Gordon is predeceased by his siblings, Joan Burgoyne and Irene Alexander. Gordon is survived by his sisters Pauline Bennett, Gail Brooks, Marlene Roberts, and brother Tom as well as long-time best friend Ivan Stulac. He will be missed by many.
There will be a visitation and opportunity to share stories with family and friends from 5:00PM to 8:00PM on Monday, September 10th, 2018 at A.L.
