Turple, Gordon Chester – Age 75 of Clam Bay, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2018, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII Site, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Chester and Gertrude (Mosher) Turple.
Gordon’s career spanned many changes from mechanic, business owner, to the offshore oilfields, ending with school bus driver at the time of his death. Gordon was a stock car driver from the mid 60s at Sea Breeze Raceway to Scotia Speedworld in the 90s. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and past president of the Lake Charlotte ATV Association. He learned to play the accordion after early retirement, entertaining at nursing homes with a group of fellow musicians, and at variety shows, weekly jams and music festivals. Gordon left this world with few regrets; his “bucket list” included owning an Edsel, which he fulfilled with the purchase of his prized 1958 Edsel Ranger, proudly displaying it at various car shows last summer.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 41 years, Anne (Rudolph); daughters, Tina (Gary Fenton), Musquodoboit Harbour; Tracy (Steve) Foley, Ship Harbour; and son, Trevor (Beth), Myers Point; grandsons, Jordan and Cayden Turple, Colton Foley; granddaughter, Rylie Turple; sisters, Noreen (Buck) Homans, Nancy (Carl) Faulkner, Marie Arnold, Sandra (Danny) Baker, Bonnie (Edgar) Kerr; brother, Peter; and inseparable companion, Bruno.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit. No funeral by request. A Celebration of Life will take place Saturday, January 27, from 2-4 p.m. in the Oyster Pond Fire Hall. Memorial donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society.
