Gloria W. (Winifred) Cheney
1925-2018

We are so
sad to announce the passing of this dear soul who was loved by so
many. Gloria Winnifred Cheney passed away at the age of 93
surrounded by those who loved her on November 16th at the George
Dumont Hospital. She was born in Moncton to Ralph Cheney of
Kennebunk, ME (deceased) and Cora Bell Armstrong of Moncton
(deceased).
Gloria
received her business training at Success Business College that
enabled her to apply for a position at CN – an arrangement
that lasted 37 years, starting at the Express office and retiring in
1980 from CN Accounting
Department.
She was a
past Worthy Matron of Frank H. Tingley, Chapter No. 5 Order of the
Eastern Star (1978 – 7979) and a member since 1971. She was
a member of Westmorland Chapter IODE; the Red Hatter Society; CN
Pensioners Association; former volunteer and member of the Ladies
Auxiliary of Kenneth E. Spencer Memorial Home with 22 years’
service; Past President of the Peoples Park Tower and Camden Park
Terrace Seniors Club 205 and Past Treasurer of the Peoples Park Tower
Seniors Club 218. She was one of three recipients of the
Mayor’s Senior Advisory Award as Volunteer of the year for
the City of Moncton in 2007. This award was presented to her
by Mayor Lorne Mitton at Crandall University. She was an
amazing person and we will all miss her so very much. She was a woman
of strong Faith and a life long member of First Baptist
Church.
Gloria
leaves to mourn her brother, Bill Cheney (Joyce) of Glendora, CA;
nieces Gloria Gallant (Bob deceased) of Moncton; Linda Jewett of
Moncton; Brenda Lane (John) of Plymouth, CA; Debbie Zaremba (Dennis)
of Fresno, CA; Michelle Bonafede (Bob) of Vancouver, WA; nephew
William Arthur Cheney (Charyllynn) of Hanford, CA as well as several
great nieces and nephews who all loved her
dearly.
Besides her
parents she was predeceased by her brother Maurice and her brother
Kenneth.
In keeping
with Gloria’s wishes, there will be no visitation.
A memorial service to honour her life will be held at a
later date. Interment will be in the Gorge Road
Cemetery.
Arrangements
entrusted to Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton
(858-1995).
