Of Paris, formerly of Guelph, passed away peacefully at the Brantford General Hospital, on July 30, 2018. She was 78 years of age. Predeceased by her beloved husband Kenneth Garnet Hillis (2017). Forever loved mother of Rhonda Thomson (David), Kenneth Jr. (Shelley), Kerry (Debbie), and Lisa Ballantyne (Tony Cannon). Proud grandmother of Courtney (Marcus), Kinsey (Rowland), Ian (Amanda), Riley, Rachel (Ronan), Brooklyn (Robert), Allison, Julia, Ian T., Alex and Matthew and one delightful great-grandchild Rory. Much loved sister of Eva Lipksie (the late Clarence), Rena Lawrence (Leonard), Bert West (Marlie), Elgin West (Jean), Gladys Murray (the late Dennis), Joe West (Gwen), and Luke West (Leslie). Survived by her brothers-in-law Howard (Sheila) and LeRoy (Kathy). Gloria was predeceased by her parents Bert and Hazel West, siblings Uriel Beacock (the late Ken) and Ben West (the late Ruth), her father-in-law Rev. Victor H. Hillis, mother-in-law Mrs. Gladys Hillis and son-in-law James Ballantyne. Gloria and her husband Ken owned and operated many businesses over the years, including Ken’s Towing and Ken’s Crane Service in Guelph.
The Hillis family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Queensview Retirement Community in Paris and the Brantford General Hospital for their care and compassion.
Friends will be welcomed at the DWAYNE D. BUDGELL Funeral Home, 1105 Rest Acres Road, on Monday August 20, 2018 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. A Memorial Service will follow in the Funeral Home Chapel at 1 p.m. In accordance with Gloria’s expressed wishes, cremation has already taken place. In Gloria’s memory, a donation to your local food bank would be appreciated by the family.
