Obituary of Glenn Holmlund
Glenn Melburn Holmlund was born on the family farm not far from Strongfield, Saskatchewan on July 28, 1933, the seventh of seven children. He grew up in Strongfield and Saskatoon. He moved to Regina in 1955 to take a job at Minneapolis Moline, where he met a beautiful young woman from Melville named Eileen Piller. Glenn and Eileen were married in 1956 and settled in Moose Jaw, where they raised their children Leslie and Glenda Lee. Glenn worked as an accountant and office manager for the Moose Jaw Co-op, Inland Construction, and Cardinal Construction. In the 1970’s he volunteered his bookkeeping skills at Central Lutheran Church and the Sheltered Workshop. Upon his retirement in 1998, Glenn and Eileen took up residence every summer at their cabin, where they gardened, golfed, made great friends, and hosted family at beautiful Melville Beach on Crooked Lake. During the rest of the year, it was well-known within the Moose Jaw bird community that the best and most bird seed could be found fresh daily around the old apple tree in the back yard of 909 Montgomery Street, courtesy of Glenn. After Eileen’s passing in 2014, Glenn dealt with some health issues and moved from home to hospital to care homes. He settled most recently at Pioneer Lodge in Moose Jaw, where he received loving and attentive care. Glenn passed away suddenly but peacefully on January 29, 2018. He is predeceased by his father and mother, Gustav and Nellie Holmlund; brothers James, Myron (Doris), Ken (Joan) and Blaine (Pat); sisters Lorraine (Orval) and Sylvia (Emile); and grandson Adam. He is survived by son Leslie (Anna), daughter Glenda Lee Cox (Larry), grandson Max Zasada (Maria), grandson Charlie Holmlund, great-granddaughter Amelia Zasada, great-grandson Alex Zasada, and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws. A tribute to his life will be held at a later date. The family sends thanks to the compassionate doctors, nurses, and care workers who cared for Glenn through the past few years. Arrangements are entrusted to Parkview Funeral Chapel, 474 Hochelaga St W, Moose Jaw, SK.
