Gladys Bernice Smith
1926-2018
Gladys Bernice Smith, 91, of The Glades, formerly of
Hillgrove, NB, passed away Friday, on May 25, 2018 at the Jordan
Lifecare Centre. Born in Hillgrove to the late Foster and Gertrude
(Collier) Davis, Gladys was the beloved wife of the late Hubert
« Mort » Smith.
Gladys was an active member of the
Hillgrove Baptist Church and was faithful in serving her Lord. She was
an avid reader. Family was most important to Gladys, and she always
enjoyed keeping up on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As a
serviceman’s wife, she enjoyed many domestic postings with Hubert, and
a posting in Lahr Germany, where many good friends were
made.
Survived and sadly missed by her
children, Carolyn Wynes (Reg) of Hillgrove, Terry (Heather) Smith of
Petitcodiac, Roger (Sharlene) Smith of Buckley Settlement &
Jackie Wagner (Wayne) of Salisbury; grandchildren Reggie, Roberta
& Rebecca; Stephen, Shawn, Scott & Seth; Shannon,
Jason, Crystal, Keynan, Robert & Greg; Tracy, David &
Paul; several great-grandchildren including Jami, with whom she had
resided and shared a special relationship, as well as several
great-great-grandchildren; sister Helen Jones (Ron) of Cornwall, PE;
sisters-in-law Viola Clements (late Jack) Owen Sound, ON, Zelma Murley
(late Gary) of Windsor, NS and several nieces and
nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, Gladys
was predeceased by her infant granddaughter Elizabeth Bernice Wagner;
brother Norman Davis and sisters Marie Chapman (Harold), Mildred
Mullins (Edwin), Edna Kaye (Arnold), Vera Dempsey (Walter), Ethel
Drury (Les), Elsie Tower (Royden) & Phyllis Smith
(Harris).
The family will receive relatives and
friends at the Hillgrove Baptist Church on Sunday, May 27, from 6 – 8
pm and a funeral service will be held on Monday, May 28 at 11 am with
Pastor Lawrence Earle officiating, followed by interment at Hillgrove
Baptist Cemetery.
If desired, memorials to the Hillgrove
Baptist Church or Friends of the Jordan Lifecare Centre would be
appreciated by the family.
