It is with profound sadness and regret that we announce the passing of Giuseppe, « Joe » Spagnuolo, in his 85th year. Beloved husband to Filomena (nee Trigiani), father to Rosemarie Ortiz (Dio), and Linda Fama (Mark). Cherished Nonno to Nicolas, Alexa, Jake, Aidan, and Cierra. He will be missed by many extended family members and friends in Hamilton, Mississauga and Toronto. Joe came to Hamilton from Rosetto, Italy in the late 1950s. He was a tireless worker throughout his many years as a former employee of the City of Hamilton and he enjoyed the last 18 years of retirement working even harder at home and around his garden; from the first thaw of spring to the last days of fall, burying his fig trees for their winter sleep. Joe enjoyed the company of his family most, especially his grandchildren, and always spoiled them whenever he got the chance. He would give you anything you needed if he had it, and when you tried to repay his act of kindness, he would tell you it wasn’t necessary, as he « had everything I need. » Joe lived his life simply, honestly, and with integrity, and his word was his guarantee. When asked if he wanted to visit his hometown once again, he would reply « this is my home » and he proudly displayed a massive Canadian flag in his yard to show it. He loved to laugh and tell stories about the weekend-long parties he would host at his house on many special occasions, and proudly showed off his garden when the multitude of flowers were in full bloom, and the fruits and vegetables were growing ripe. You’ll be dearly missed, pa!
Visitation is to take place at Friscolanti Funeral Chapel, 43 Barton St. E, Hamilton, ON L8L 2V7, on Thursday, April 26th, and Friday, April 27th, from 2 – 4 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m. both days. A funeral mass will be held at St. Luke Roman Catholic Church, 200 Mount Albion Rd, Hamilton, ON L8K 5S9 on Saturday, April 28th, at 10 am. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery 600 Spring Garden Rd, Burlington ON L7T 1J1
