With heavy hearts and many tears we announce the passing of both of our beloved parents. Married for 63 years they poetically and magically passed within 30 hours of one another allowing them to embark on their next journey together – hand in hand. Our parents are survived by us, their loving daughters, Ornella and Giuliana (a.k.a. Julie). Our Mother is survived by her brothers Fiore (Iolanda) and Vittorio (Santina). Both are survived by many nieces, nephews, great- nieces and nephews and dear friends. Our Father was predeceased by his four older brothers and nephew Joe. Our Mother was predeceased by seven of her nine siblings. Giuseppe and Carmela were both born in Decollatura, Catanzaro, Italy. Giuseppe, initially, came to Canada in 1952 returning to Italy to marry Carmela on March 31, 1955. They moved to Blandy Les Tours, France shortly after marriage where their daughter Ornella was born. Giuseppe returned to Canada, once again, in March 1956 followed by his wife and 1 ½ year old daughter in June of 1957. In 1958 their daughter Julie was born in Vancouver. Giuseppe worked as a cement finisher and foreman at Dominion Construction for 36 years. Carmela worked as a steam presser at Canadian Linen for 26 years. Giuseppe loved doting on his daughters and was an avid sports fan, especially of the Canucks. He also enjoyed making wine, soppressata, and prosciutto, jarring tomatoes and tending to his fig trees. He also loved eating pasta and ice cream drumsticks. He loved to joke around and his smile was big and beautiful. Carmela was a chef. Anyone and everyone that ever knew her has eaten her famous and delicious pizza. She loved to bake cookies, make soppressata and sausages and garden. Her favourite flower was the Oleander. Theirs is an enduring and beautiful love story and they are now united forever in eternal love. We will miss you deeply “Dad/Poppy” and “Ma/ Mommy”…Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at St. Helen’s Parish located at 3860 Triumph Street, Burnaby, BC. Entombment will follow the mass at the South Mausoleum, Ocean View Burial Park, Burnaby, BC. A donation to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC & Yukon or The BC Cancer Agency would be kindly appreciated.
