Gertrude « Trudy » Crowell
1928-2018
The family of Gertrude « Trudy » Crowell are
saddened to announce her passing on November 9, 2018 at 90 years of
age. Born in Amherst, NS on June 21, 1928, Trudy was a daughter of the
late Victor and Isabel (Read) Silliker. While growing up in Amherst,
Trudy met the love of her life, Bryson Elliot Crowell. Upon graduating
from high school, they started their life’s journey together
by attending Acadia University. Trudy spent four wonderful years
building lifetime friendships and memories. She graduated in 1949 with
a Bachelor of Arts and is a member of the Acadia Sports Hall of Fame.
In the summer of 1950, Trudy married her sweetheart and they moved to
Springfield, Massachusetts where she worked in the public library.
They eventually settled in Dartmouth, NS and began to raise their
family. While working as a ‘household engineer’,
she supported her three children in their academics and
extracurricular activities. She loved to cook and was famous for her
home cooked gourmet meals. Trudy was an active member of her
community, volunteering with the Canadian Cancer Society and the Heart
and Stroke Foundation. In later years, she was a member of the IODE
and the Acadia University Antiques Group. Trudy loved to read and
passed this life long learning trait to her children and
grandchildren. Her witty personality came to the forefront when she
hosted friends and family. Trudy’s love of history took her
on many adventures across the globe with relatives, friends and
family. However, her favourite place was the family cottage located in
picturesque Lorneville, NS. Trudy was an avid painter, and her love of
nature and the ocean could often be reflected in her paintings. Trudy
is survived by her loving husband, Bryson Crowell; sisters, Margaret
Stewart, Truro and Carolyn McStravick, Ottawa; sons, Gordon (Debbie),
Riverview, NB; Steve (Nanette), Valley, NS and daughter, Linda
Chiasson, Dartmouth, NS. She will be greatly missed by her
grandchildren, Sean, Laura, Michael, Jenny, Bryson and Matthew. Great
grandchildren, Peyton, Colton, and Alexander will also miss their
Mimi. Cremation has taken place. There will be no
visitation, by request. The funeral service, followed by a reception
will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 12, 2018 in St. James
Anglican Church, Kentville, The Reverend Doctor John Roddam

memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Funeral
