Geraldine Marie D’Amour
1924-2018
It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of
Geraldine Marie (Landry) D’Amour of Fredericton, NB, wife of the late
Albery D’Amour, which occurred on January 9, 2018, at Thomas Hall.
Born on January 5, 1924, in Moncton, NB, she was the daughter of the
late Dominique and Evangeline (Gauvin) Landry. The third of seven
children she grew up in Memramcook, NB.
She is survived by daughters, Paulette Johnston (Bill) of
Fredericton, Andrea Ryerson (John) of Saint John; sister-in-law, Mary
D’Amour of Rimouski; grandchildren, Stephen Johnston (Sherri), Rob
Johnston (Sheri), Suzanne Cook (Mike), Michele Thibeau, Jacqueline
Baker (Kevin), and Denise Aiken (Damian); 8 great grandchildren,
Madeline and Rachel Johnston, Allison and Nolan Baker, Gabriel and
Kole Aiken, Molly and Reilly Cook; and many nieces and nephews. She
was predeceased by her loving husband, Bary, of 67 years; daughter,
Patricia Thibeau and son-in-law, Robert; granddaughter, Sherry Lynne
Johnston; and 5 sisters and 1 brother.
Geraldine graduated from Notre Dame du Sacre Coeur in 1943
and then, at 19 years old, enrolled in the Provincial Normal School in
Fredericton. During this time she met Bary, the love of her life. She
graduated in 1944 with a First Class Teacher’s License and taught for
a brief period in Moncton before marrying in 1946 and moving to
Fredericton.
Geraldine loved to read, make puzzles, knit, sew clothes for
the girls, take long walks, family vacations, tend her flower gardens,
listen to music, and could be seen dancing with Bary in various venues
in Fredericton. Most important was her family. She briefly worked at
Levine’s in the bridal and drapery departments as a
seamstress.
She was a long time member of Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church
as an active member of the CWL and the Elite 90’s Club. With Bary at
her side she attended Holy Family Parish as well as many Knights of
Columbus functions, including bowling, and was honored with the Family
of the Year Award.
Many thanks to the home care workers, the staff of
Governor, Brunswick and Thomas Hall and Dr. Louise Ruest.
Special thanks to Miles and Ferne Carpenter and The Knights of
Columbus.
Visitation will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home on Friday,
January 12, from 7-9 pm. Memorial Mass will be celebrated from Holy
Family Catholic Church in Hanwell on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 11
am with Fr. Monte Peters as celebrant. Interment will take place at a
later date. For those who wish, donations may be made to NB Heart and
Stroke or Canadian Cancer Society.
