Passed peacefully away at the Palliative Care Unit of the L. A. Miller Centre surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, October 16th, 2018 after a brief but courageous battle with Cancer at the age of 78 years. Gerald was born to Edward and Lucy Everard and lived his life in Goulds, Newfoundland. He married his devoted wife Margaret and together raised three loving daughters. He spent many hardworking years on the family farm as well as Brother O’Herir Arena, the Irish Christian Brothers and the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District. Predeceased by his parents Edward and Lucy Everard; parents-in-law Thomas and Rita Murphy; siblings: Leonard Everard, Agnes Everard, Edward Everard, Patrick Everard, James Everard, Denis Everard, Genevieve Johnston and John Everard; brothers-in-law: Cosmos Leonard, Arthur Johnston and Roger Murphy; sister-in-law Dorothy Everard; niece Connie Everard; nephew Craig Johnston; and his nephew Ken’s wife Isabelle Johnston. Leaving to mourn his loving and devoted wife of 44 years Margaret Everard (nee Murphy); three loving daughters: Paula, Rita and Connie; sisters Mary Leonard and Margaret Johnston (Harold); sisters-in-law: Frances Vander-Reyden, Yvonne Murphy, Madonna Murphy and June Murphy; brothers-in-law: Patrick Murphy (Mary), Cyril Murphy (Hilda), Basil Murphy (Claudine), Tony Murphy (Zay), Philip Murphy (Karen), Ron Murphy and Dan Murphy (Theresa); special friends Eric White and Debbie Hannon; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, and life long neighbours. Special thanks to the Palliative Care Unit at the L. A. Miller Centre, the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Clinic (especially Dr. Stewart Rorke), family physician Dr. Mary Watson and staff at Campbell Avenue Medical Clinic, and Fr. Jeffrey Kolonel of St. Kevin’s Parish. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. The family will receive visitors on Thursday, October 18th, 2018 from 3 p.m – 9 p.m, and Friday, October 19th, 2018 from 11 a.m – 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Kevin’s Parish, Goulds, on Saturday, October 20th, 2018 at 11 a.m, with cremation to follow. Burial will take place at a later date. Flowers gratefully accepted, or donations in his memory may be made to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation.
